The City of Preston is situated in the North West of England.

Vibrant, cultural and friendly with plenty to keep you entertained, Preston has over 30,000 students living in the city making it a lively, diverse and contemporary place to study.

You’ll find Preston is a bustling city, traditional yet with a young and lively atmosphere. Located a short distance from the coastline, the Lake District, and the larger cities of Manchester and Liverpool, both of which have international airports; Preston is also one of the most networked cities in the country. The railway station is just a 10-minute walk away from campus.

Living In Preston

Preston is a perfectly formed city for students. Bustling and friendly, it is large enough to offer culture, events and entertainment but small enough to feel homely.

 

Preston student life is enabled by the excellent transport links. These allow even those students from further afield to feel connected and within reach of home. Preston is close to both Liverpool and Manchester with their international airports. The University campus itself is situated just a ten minute walk away from the railway station.

 

There is a wealth of things to do in Preston, which is a multicultural and diverse city. There is a balance of both popular chain stores and boutique shops. Most well known high street stores are centred around the Fishergate and St George's Shopping Centre. For independent shopping, try exploring some of the side streets around the city centre, such as Cannon Street and Winckley Street. These spots hold some quirky and eclectic gems, with great cafes for a pit stop.

 

For further cultural recreation there is a wealth of things to do in Preston. The Harris Museum and Art gallery is perfect for those wanting to explore art and local history. It is not only situated in a beautiful listed building but is also free to enter. It has both permanent collections and exhibitions that change regularly and represent both popular and upcoming artists.

 

For fans of history, Preston's main church, the Church of St Walburge, is located just to the north of the city centre. It has stood since the middle of the 19th century and it's 94 metre high spire is the tallest of any parish church in England.

 

There is plenty to enjoy outdoors as part of your Preston student life. Avenham Park is a beautiful heritage park in the centre of Preston. It is ideal for a quiet walk or to enjoy a picnic in the sun after a day of lectures. Brockholes nature reserve is ideal for a bit of nature fuelled tranquil reflection. It is home to rare species and has large lakes and stunning wildlife. For an alternative way to get some exercise whilst staying indoors, Preston also has an indoor climbing centre.

 

There are also many things to do in Preston with your friends in your spare time. For daytime socialising, there are numerous cafes and bars. If you're missing your feline pets, try the Lazy Cat Cafe, which allows you to pet the cats and kittens while enjoying a cup of tea or some food. There are plenty of other both chain and independent cafes and restaurants to enjoy throughout the city.

 

The Flag Market in Preston is a hub for the community, with many events happening here throughout the year, such as exhibitions and carnivals. Roper Hall is great for some fun to de-stress. It has arcade machines, pool tables and a games room so is ideal to hang out in during the day and has regular club nights.

 

With plenty of bars and pubs there is something for everyone. Live music venues include the Mad Ferret, which is a US-style bar with live music and open mic nights. There are clubs such as The Warehouse and Evoque, depending on the musical genre you prefer.

 

Preston really has something for everyone.
